Arena
A downloadable Arena Game for Windows
To play, Download the file, Unzip, and open the "Arena" file with the little red and black icon.
Basically I went through a phase last year where I was addicted to watching game jam videos on YouTube, and so I thought it'd be fun to make one.
It's called Arena, and it's a top-down 1v1 between a Ninja and Dryad, with each having a unique ability and playstyle.
On the first screen, click the names of the characters to choose them and see a guide, or click the "see art" of each character to see their animations
Honestly the gameplay is kind of whatever, but I'm super excited about the animations, it was all very fun to make (especially the win screens for both characters).
Extra Stuff:
Originally I wanted there to be 5 different characters, where each time you beat one, you'd wake up the next day in their body, and be forced to fight the next character. The twist would be that at the end you all come together to fight this one big bad guy, and then after that fight, you'd wake up as the big bad guy and have to fight all five of the characters. I think it's a cool idea but for a first game it's definitely more than I can chew.
It was inspired by the sci-fi short story "Arena," where I really thought it'd be cool to have a game where the enemy has a secret ability that slowly gets revealed as you play against it. I was imagining seeing the enemy have some busted or broken ability and then getting hyped about getting to use it.
I made some characters and abilities, all super heavily inspired by the creativity of the abilities in jojo and especially Golden Wind, but I couldn't really capture that like "ominous power" feeling that someone like King Crimson had, where you see their power and you're still like wtf is going on.
If I see this when I'm like 30: some hidden gems are the Ninja side-idle and side-walk, the first frame of the enchantress down-dash lol, and the slash frame of the ninja side-attack. also the impact frames for the win screens.
